The seed of gratitude

A few years ago, I was at a crossroads in my life.  I wasn’t sure where my career was headed. Do I stay or do I go? Where does God want me to be? What does He want me to do?

Not just in my career, but in my relationships too. Everything was at a standstill.

One morning, I was exhausting myself trying to figure everything out on my own. So many thoughts running through my mind, I could barely focus. I took a deep breath. Paused. Grabbed a pen and a yellow piece of notebook paper. I wrote “God is good! I have joy in my heart! I am grateful for every moment in my life that had led to this one!”

That was May 21, 2014 at 12:28pm.

The next week, I was promoted to morning anchor at News 3.

Two months later, I won my first Emmy.

Four months after that note, a chance encounter at a football game was the beginning of my relationship with my husband.

A year and a half after I wrote that note, I was featured on the cover of Woman’s Day Magazine for my 100 pound weight loss journey.

Every day, I continue to reap the harvest from that seed of gratitude I planted in the midst of so much confusion in my life.

Today, I encourage you to pause. Take a deep breath. Grab a pen and paper, and plant a seed of gratitude. If you’re struggling in your health and fitness journey, thinking about how far you have to go, dig up that seed of doubt, and plant a seed of gratitude. Trust me. The harvest will last for years.
